AUTHOR INTERVIEW: Elisa Guajardo-Carothers

Welcome Elisa! It’s so wonderful to have you here! Come sit and let’s talk books, you and your book!

First let’s get to know you …

What is your favorite junk food vice?I have a weak spot for dairy free frozen yogurt! My favorite flavors are chocolate mint, dole pineapple and fruit punch.

Do you have a favorite book or film?   I would have to say one of my all time favorite books is “On Watership Down.” I have always loved rabbits, and this book really draws you into their world.

Any movies that you really want to see? I would really like to see the LIVE Disney version of The Little Mermaid when it hits the big screen. I love mermaids and all things mystical.

What’s on your reading list right now? I am currently reading several works by Stephen King.

Besides writing and reading, what is your most favorite thing to do? I love to pray and meditate every day, and go for nature walks. I enjoy my pet cat and Florida wildlife at the local parks.

What do you look for in a book when you sit down to read for fun? I always make sure to read the synopsis on the back, it needs to grab my attention, if it does not, it goes back on the shelf.

Who are your favorite authors? My favorite authors are Richard Adams, C.S Lewis and Stephen King.

What 5 words would you use to describe yourself? I am very reserved yet also outgoing, I talk easily with people I click with. I am artistic and have a great imagination.

When you walk into a bookstore, where do you head to first? When I walk into a bookstore I always head for Fiction.

Do you have a job other than being an author?  If so, what is it? Aside from writing, I am a credited actress. You can find me on IMDb Pro at Elisa m Guajardo. I also do some modeling.

What has been the strangest thing that a reader has asked you? A reader once asked me if the things I wrote about were all true.

What are some of your favorite genres to read and to write? I enjoy to write and read Fiction, and Fantasy and on occasion Horror and Suspense!

What do you do when you are not writing? When I am not writing,I am usually going on nature walks, watching a show on television, or working out.

Who was your current novel dedicated to? My current novel is dedicated to my oldest sister Linda Garcia, she passed away on March 30th of this year, it was a hard hit for me, she was so excited about my new book.

Which is your favorite character in your book and why? My favorite character in my book is Michael, he is just now assuming his duties as an Archangel Captain and is beginning to develop as a mature angel. He finds the need to be stern yet gentle.

What is your work schedule like when you’re writing? I really have an odd schedule, since I am self employed, so, I like to write whenever I feel inspired or bored.

What books have most influenced your life? The Books that most influenced my life were The Bible, The Book of Enoch and The Apocrypha, or The Lost Books of The Bible. I really enjoy Theology, I was raised Catholic, and was actually a nun for three years before God led me on another path.

Do you have any advice for other writers? I would highly advise new writers to be wary of vanity presses that say they can publish and promote your book for a package of one to three thousand, I was taken advantage of by such a press. I hardly ever got any royalties. Please be careful.

What has been the biggest compliment given to you as an author?  What was the toughest criticism?  Did those change how or what you did in your writing? The biggest compliment I have gotten as a writer, was that my writing style was similar to C.S Lewis. The harshest thing said about my writing was that it was sacreligious trash, of course a hit like that was very hurtful, but it did not change the way I wrote. I do not write to please the masses, I write to later enjoy what I have written. If other people like it, well that is just a plus!

Michael’s Teardrop is your current work. Tell us what inspired you to write this story…

I decided to write “Michael’s Teardrop” in April of 2019 on a long flight to my homeland of Israel. My husband and I try going every year, of course with the pandemic that occurred; this year’s trip was halted. The idea came to me when we were about one hour into the twenty hour flight. I was looking out the window of the plane at the passing clouds and daydreaming. I was taken aback when I actually saw an angelic male looking image form out of the cloud mounds. He was tall, surrounded by the sun and yet looked sad. I knew it had to be Michael, since he was garbed in a knight’s vestures. I recall thinking, “He appears as if he is broken hearted…”

After the vision passed I nudged my husband and made him hand over his lab top. A story had just popped into my mind. I typed for almost two hours before I heard the Captain announcing that the snack cart was coming around. My husband took back his lab top, but not before I saved what I had typed. We were in Israel for two weeks before we came back home to Florida. Once I had unpacked and taken a few days to rest, I resumed working on my book. I have always had a special connection to the Archangel Michael, he appears in my dreams to me often, writing about him, although in a fictional way helps tighten that bond.

Sympathy for the Devil has a heavenly price.

The Great Morning Star Lucifer has fallen from grace, now; his younger sibling Michael, once known as Me-el, has assumed his sibling’s role as Captain of all God’s Archangels. Michael the one angel to show any sympathy for The Devil by shedding one teardrop, now finds himself torn between falling in love with Seraphina, an angel that was formed from his tear, and maintaining his role as a leader among his brethren and a guardian of God’s Earth.
Will Satan find Michael’s Achilles heel in his soft spot for Seraphina?
Or; will God vanquish The Devil once and for all?
