Trust is defined as – firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something.
Trust isn’t something we throw around like bird seed at a park. Nope its something that builds over time. Days, weeks, months, and even years. The longer you can trust someone the stronger the bond becomes.
But here is the kicker… it only takes one action to break down that invisible bond that was as solid as a brick wall. When that action happens everything crumbles. This week that happened to me twice. Bonds that I thought were strong were discovered to be false. As each day goes by, I now question ever word and action that was ever said by those who broke their bonds with me.
I’m a forgiver. I wasn’t always. Over the decades I’ve learned to forgive. Now mind you, I don’t forgive for the other persons sake. OH NO!!!! I forgive for my own. BUT I don’t forget. I begin to watch closer, listen harder, check up behind… to see if the next thing they do or say is trustworthy.
All my life, well as early as I can remember… I was taught you can’t believe in just anyone. Actually there were only a handful in life over time that I’ve found have never broken my trust.
Rebuilding trust once it is broken is probably the hardest challenge with me. Because I feel betrayed to my core. Liars and thieves are two types of people I take issue with and its because both break bonds that should never be toyed with.
Wrapping this up… think about who you have betrayed. Was it worth it? I imagine not. So be the best version of yourself you can be. Be open. Be honest. Be true.
